I would love this idea. I do not know "how to" so many things I just stop. Mentors would rock my world.

Count me in...I'd LOVE a digital scrapbooking mentor and would be happy to pay for it. I know people's time is valuable! Trial and error works, sort of, but usually it takes me extra steps. Someone who knows what they're doing and can explain in layman's terms would be so appreciated!

I think this would be a wonderful idea with me being a newbie myself I would love a mentor 's help .I will be honest I do not want to learn the page layout templates area I do more online .. I want to learn making my own embellishment flowers bows buttons and etc love making papers want to learn working with layer styles on my own with out relaying on pre made layer styles all the time and making things more 3D / pop out realistic right now everything I make I think looks fake I would one day love making embellishments kits I think I will never be good enough to sell maybe passing it out Boy I am not asking for much am I LOL!

I'd be interested in maybe being a designer mentor. I really want to give back some way with all the knowledge I've gained. I know people here keep asking for it. I think it would be an awesome idea. and I'd totally be willing to help out.
Some ideas, I think while tutorials are great, some people really want to be able to go to a mentor and ask questions, hash things out, etc. So definitely some one on one would be a great start. Maybe something where There could be teams of 2-4 newbies wanting to learn that will work together with a designer mentor. They'd make a mini kit from start to finish with the mentor helping and guiding them along the way.

All of these are great ideas!! I really like Mollie Coonce's idea though! I am a beginner with not a lot of money, so I have to be creative when it comes to digi-scrapping. I mostly use a free online "WebApp" called Pixlr. A lot of my knowledge has come from trial and error and it would be wonderful to have somewhere to turn to for mentorship and/or a tutorial type database. Votes for mentors!

This sounds really great, I would love to see a newbie/beginners forum as I, too, sometimes feel overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Even the challenges seem frightening...

I support this idea as well. I'm such a beginner I don't even know what QC means. Lol. Oh I figured it out - quality check .... am I right? hahaha.

This is a wonderful idea! If I had access to something like this when I first started I would have been in "hog heaven"!

I think a mentor program is great. A how To forum would also be great. I know one way that really got me going was the Designer challenges - not competing against each other but ourselves. Each week we were given a prompt for a kit and a palette or two to work with. We were given the rules for QCing our own work and if we turned it in, on time and it passed their QC then we got a CU prize and moved onto the next round. If we completed all 4 weeks of challenges then we got a bonus CU prize. A lot of places are no longer doing that but I think we could bring that back.
I would be willing to help out as much as possible.

I have a more fleshed-out idea for the designer mentor program, and that's why I am putting my votes here. My idea:
We should have a newbie/beginner's forum. In that forum, we should have sticky posts for the basic information and beginner's FAQs (like "what goes into a kit?" or "how do I QC?" etc) so that all our collective knowledge is in an easy-to-find location (because these questions get asked a LOT, especially now that many of the more informative scrapbooking groups/designers have been closing up shop). Also, in that forum, we could have a mentorship program or a designer Q&A. I've also had people request design challenges geared specifically toward beginners (like challenges teaching about assembling kits) and I don't see why that couldn't happen in this forum as well.
I would also be more than willing to moderate/manage this forum: if you decide to put it there, I will put the work into it!
